Selection panel and judges announced for $20,000 Sculpture Award
Sculpture at Scenic World 2017 is proud to announce the independent judging panel for Australia’s only annual rainforest exhibition, which again will feature the lucrative $20,000 Scenic World Major Award.
The esteemed panel includes:
- Wendy Teakel, Canberra based artist and the Head of Sculpture at the ANU
- Josh Wodak, researcher, artist and design educator in the faculty of Art and Design, UNSW
- Joan Ross, established visual artist working across video animation, print, sculpture and installation
The selection panel will begin to review the artist’s proposals after the submissions deadline of 28 November 2016 and the exhibition will run for four weeks from 7 April to 7 May 2017.
Sculpture at Scenic World Curator and Exhibition Manager, Justin Morrissey, is thrilled to welcome this experienced panel of judges and is confident that once again they will help to deliver an inspiring experience for the tens of thousands of visitors who come to revel in the magic of Sculpture at Scenic World.

It’s an excellent opportunity for artists to receive hands on installation support and to have their work judged by some of Australia’s most influential and talented arts professionals.”
Celebrated artist Joan Ross is excited to join this year’s judging panel. “As an arts practitioner based in the Blue Mountains, I see this a great opportunity to showcase the beauty of our region and I look forward to seeing how artists respond to the awe inspiring beauty of this pocket of ancient rainforest in the Jamison Valley.”
This year all selected artists will receive a $750 payment to assist them with production and transport costs and as recognition for their efforts in creating a unique and engaging piece of art. Justin says that “Sculpture at Scenic World is committed to presenting highly ambitious, extraordinarily diverse and thought-provoking sculpture and installation. As such, we recognise that artists should be suitably rewarded for their outstanding contributions”.
Exhibiting artists will also present small scale works for Sculpture Otherwise at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre.
Artists are encouraged to discuss their submission prior to entries closing on Monday the 28th November 2016.
