Installation is underway!
The installation of 28 sculptures created by 33 artists selected for the 2016 Sculpture at Scenic World exhibition is well underway.
Installation Manager, Richard Harrison and his team have been hanging, securing, placing and mounting the works of varying sizes in the rainforest for the past week in preparation for the opening day on Friday, 8 April.
Richard said a number of factors make the installs challenging.
“The weather can be a challenge if rain is heavy and continuous; the weight of the artwork can make the install difficult as we are not able to use cranes in the rainforest; the position of a hanging piece may make the install process time consuming and challenging; and some works are also fragile which makes transporting and installing them more difficult,” he said.
“The process of bringing the works to their site via the Scenic Cableway each morning is a highlight, that and working with the artists – realising their vision for the work in the rainforest environment. I enjoy seeing how nature can enhance the artist’s installed work,” Richard said.
The winner of the $20,000 Scenic World Major Award will be announced on 8 April, with the exhibition continuing until 8 May 2016.
