CALLS FOR SUBMISSION OPEN FOR SCULPTURE AT SCENIC WORLD 2017
Sculpture at Scenic World is now inviting submissions for Australia’s only rainforest exhibition. The four week event will showcase artworks from local, national and international artsists, all vying for Australia’s richest regional prize – the $20,000 Scenic World Major Award.
Winner of the Major Award for 2016, Michael McIntyre, said “Being a part of Sculpture at Scenic World was such a rewarding experience, exhibiting in the Jamison Valley transformed my work’s meaning, scale and presence. Winning the award has given me greater freedom to work unencumbered by financial concerns and has assisted me in funding an arts residency in Paris.”
All of the artist submissions are assessed by an independant selection panel, to be announced shortly. Previous panel members have included Felicity Fenner, Michael Snelling, Claire Healy, Anne Loxley, David Williams and Clara Hali.
Sculpture at Scenic World’s Exhibition Manager, Justin Morrissey said “We’re encouraging artists to contact us prior to submitting their application and, if possible, to visit the exhibition site. This is particularly important as we’re looking for immersive and interactive artworks that respond to the environment.”
Sculpture at Scenic World has supported more than 170 exhibiting artists over the past 5 years, attracting over 280,000 visitors to ride the world’s steepest railway into the Jurassic rainforest to view the sculpture and installations.
The deadline for submissions for Sculpture at Scenic World 2017 is Monday 28th November 2016 and successful artists will be notified on Monday 12th December 2016.
