My work stems from an interest in landscape and a mapping of place through the process of weaving or playing with scale to build up abstract forms and ‘sites’.
The Gathering is both a figurative and abstract work. The forms appear like a clan gathering in conversation or in an ancient ritual. You could see the group as a family or a collection of people coming together from diverse races and backgrounds united in some cause. The electrical data cable represents another, technological aspect of communication.
Here, a traditional craft technique called ‘cork’ or French knitting has been adapted into the construction of a large-scale work using non-traditional industrial materials.
